Smart Urban Properties Australia (SUPA), a leading integrated utility infrastructure provider delivering embedded energy networks and ultrafast broadband fibre solutions to property developments across Australia, today announced the appointment of Phil Barton as Chief Executive Officer, effective 2 March 2026.
Phil brings more than 25 years of experience driving commercial growth, scaling operations, and delivering transformational change across the energy, infrastructure, and industrial sectors. Most recently, he served as Executive General Manager at Intellihub, where he led customer sales, product management, field operations, and data operations. Earlier in his career, Phil was a Partner at Bain & Company, leading the ANZ Utilities practice.
Phil joins SUPA as the company accelerates its next phase of strategic growth and continues delivering value to customers and stakeholders.
“I am thrilled to join SUPA and lead a talented team focused on driving growth and delivering strong outcomes,” said Phil. “I look forward to building on the company’s strong foundation and working closely with our team, customers, and partners to achieve our ambitious goals.”
Outgoing CEO Geoff Horth said, “I’m incredibly proud of what we have achieved since the formation of SUPA in December 2022 — growing active energy services at a 64% CAGR and active fibre services at a 57% CAGR over this time whilst building a significant future pipeline. We also reached important milestones, including securing our Victorian energy retail licence, establishing low cost funding facilities, and delivering positive EBITDA for the six months to 31 December 2025. After three years of building this strong foundation, I believe now is the right time to hand over the reins to Phil, who has the expertise and vision to lead SUPA as it scales significantly over coming years. Thanks to the dedication of our people, SUPA is well positioned for its next stage of growth. I’m excited about the future and confident the company will continue to thrive under Phil’s leadership.”
On behalf of the Board, Chair Jeremy Larkin thanked Geoff Horth for his leadership over the past three years. “We sincerely thank Geoff for his dedication, vision, and significant contribution to SUPA’s growth and success,” Mr Larkin said. “We are pleased that Geoff will continue to support the company as a Non-Executive Director on the SUPA Board.”
